How to Choose an Outdoor Bathtub for Your Home

Posted by Krista Payne on Jan 23, 2018 10:49:22 AM

If the idea of an outdoor bathtub appeals to you, there are a few things you should consider before running out and purchasing a tub and the hardware that goes along with it, especially if you plan to build any kind of covering or surrounding structure to enclose your outdoor tub.

  1. Check with city hall. Before installing an outdoor bathtub, you will need to consult your local building codes to secure any necessary permits before moving forward with your project. If you want to build an enclosure, roof, or surrounding structure, or plan to run water, gas, and/or electrical lines to the area, you will most likely need your city’s permission to do so, and there will be criteria to meet to have your project approved.
  2. Design the space. The skilled designers at Diamond Spas can work with you to come up with the right kind of outdoor bathtub that blends with the landscape and surroundings of your bathing area. We will take elements like your existing home design, your style, your outdoor space, any structures or plantings in the area you envision placing your outdoor bathtub, lighting, plumbing, and electrical specifications, and blend everything together into a design that reflects your lifestyle and meets your needs for the perfect outdoor bathing experience.
  3. Once you have the necessary paperwork, if any, make sure whatever surface you will be placing the tub on is sturdy and supported enough to handle the weight of a full tub of water. If you are installing a poolside tub, the surrounding deck will no doubt be sufficient to handle the weight, but if you are installing an outdoor bathtub on a wooden deck, or using a drop in design, you will want to ensure the necessary support is in place.
  4. Choose your outdoor bathtub. Diamond Spas can create the luxury custom outdoor bathtub of your dreams in gorgeous natural copper or stunning stainless steel. We fabricate your stainless steel or copper outdoor tub by hand, deliver it to your home, and install it professionally. Many of the finest builders, architects, landscape architects, and designers in Colorado rely on us to design and create artistic, functional, beautiful tubs, spas, and pools.
